Sadly, this makes the hilarious movie version of Clue now out of date. They’ve removed some of the weapons (the new gun has a silencer) and added new ones.
Hasbro has also lengthened the weapons list from six to nine. The candlestick, knife and rope remain, but now weapons choices include a dumbbell, trophy or poison. The lead pipe, revolver and wrench are no longer part of the game.
They’ve also changed the rooms and given all the characters first names. They now sound more like real people, so if your name is Diane White, you may want to avoid suspicion and quit playing Clue.
My main issue with this “detective” game is that it’s not deduction, it’s process of elimination. If CSI said things like, “It seems to be some kind of lacerated wound… could be caused by a dumbbell,” then you wouldn’t watch.
They’ve also added “special powers” for each character. That, along with the new weapons choices, should make the game fresh and new… or perhaps more complicated and frustrating. I could never get a note-taking strategy that worked, so I’m lousy at this game anyway. Anybody tried this new version?
