The clbuttic mistake.

One of the ways that filters censor words is to replace one word, like “ass,” with a similar word, like “butt.” However, some of these filters are terribly simple-minded.

Perhaps the most celebrated instance of the Clbuttic Mistake comes in an article currently visible on the website jucee.org .

It contains mentions of a “series of previously secret Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plots to buttbuttinate foreign leaders”, a law “pbutted by Congress”, and new powers “butterted” by the US administration.

Another classic is “President Abraham Lincoln was buttbuttinated by an armed buttailant after a life devoted to the reform of the US consbreastution.”

Censorship is wrong, and especially so when it’s done by idiots.

Puts me in mind of the time a certain Company’s BBS rejected my post because it contained the dreadful word Saturday. Took me a while to figure out that the brain-dead “filter” included “turd” in its list of no-nos.

In City of Heroes, the number 455 is censored, I guess because it looks like “ass.” I found that out when I tried to tell a friend I needed 12,#@* XP for my next level.
