Two points FTW!

I was thrilled to see Mike Shanahan go for two to win the game against the Chargers yesterday. With half a minute to go and down by one point, nearly every other coach in the league would have played for the tie.

The Broncos coach rightly figured that it’s better to try when you have the ball now than to hope to get it back before the end of the game or to hope to get it back in overtime.

I love the unconventional coaches. Hey, Mad Mike even won for the 49’ers yesterday in true Mad Mike fashion… his QB was sacked eight times but kept throwing FTW!

From a purely statistical view, it’s really even odds. 2-point conversions are successful about 50% of the time (I think it was something like 49.2% last year), and you’d assume you have a 50% chance of winning in OT.

So it looks great now, but if they miss, he looks stupid :)

Eh, he looks stupid if they miss until everyone but the die-hard fans forget about it, and then it just goes back to being a 50-50 proposition.
