Rumors and facts.

Rumor: Since the leaked pirated version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was downloaded a million times, the movie will suffer at the boxoffice.

Rumor: With the outbreak of H1N1 swine flu, the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine will suffer at the boxoffice.

Fact: X-Men Origins: Wolverine took in $87 million this weekend. Pirating doesn’t hurt, it helps. Real people in the real world are taking a rational view of H1N1, despite the 24/7 media fearmongering.

  1. Jason says:

Would it have made $95 million without the pirating? Or would it have made $80 million? Unless you know that, you can’t say really that it hurts or helps, though the effect is probably overrated anyway, at least in this case.

The swine flu thing, OTOH, is a bunch of bull– er, pig.

You work at a video game company and you’re going to say pirating helps? Sampling music or video or games or whatever helps. Mass file sharing hurts. There is data, recent data at that, to show those statements to be true.

Plus like Jason said your analysis is missing all sorts of data. I personally think high ticket prices, lack of counter programming, and extreme popularity of the subject material is the reason Wolverine made so much money.

The pig fever, yeah that’s pretty stupid.
