Why are vampire movies always bad?

We watched Lost Boys last night. It was one of those movies that people always asked, “You haven’t seen ____?” It was okay, very 80s of course. But it got me thinking about vampire movies again. Why are they always bad? Is the whole mystique and fascination with vampires just something that only works in prose? I like all that stuff, and even I admit it comes off cheesy on the big screen. Ah well, I can always hope.

Ever see “Let the right one in”? Nothing Lost Boys about it, even though it does involve a ‘boy’.
It’s cold, it’s creepy and it beats out any other vampire movie hands down–except maybe The Shadow of the Vampire–in which William Defoe is impossible to visually identify.
As for “Let the Right One In”–it holds its own with any well crafted film in any genre–but that’s just my opinion.
